Best Campgrounds in Port Austin

There are many campgrounds in Port Austin that are worth mentioning however, I am going to share 4 of the best in my opinion. The 4 campgrounds that I will share in this article are:

  • Northern Bear Paw RV Park
  • Whalens Grindstone Shores, Inc.
  • Duggan’s Family Campground

Sebewaing River Campground

This newly opened campground is visited for its cleanliness and the stunning view of the Lake Huron by the boat ramps. Sebewaing River Campground is the perfect place for you if you are planning on fishing around the area. Free boat parking is available if you are renting in the campground. Campground Reviews rated this campground as good. The guests found the area spotless and they enjoyed the scenic view of the river.

You will have a great nature experience in this campground as it offers scenic hiking trails for the adventurous souls, grassy playgrounds for the children, relaxing birdwatching areas for enthusiasts, and large waterfront areas for those who love to relax. The Sebewaing River also leads to the Saginaw Bay that has the best migratory bird hunting spot.

The campground offers full hook-ups of 20, 30, or 50-amps for RVs. Nightly rate is $30-$35, weekly rate for $180, and monthly for $650 if you are planning to stay there. About $3 per person for a day visit. Rental cabins cost around $55. The boat slip is also available for $20 per day and $550 per season.

Northern Bear Paw RV Park

This park has exclusivity going for it. Visitors can enjoy a private space as the campground only accommodates only around 47 full service (electric, water, and sewer) sites, and 7 electric and water sites. By staying here, you’ll be able to explore the huge state and its national forests by hiking and biking. You may also enjoy hunting in the nearby forest.  Northern Bear Paw RV Park is rated 5.0 stars on Yelp. The guests commended its cleanliness, accessibility and an ample space to camp in.

Another point in its favor: it’s a pet-friendly area campground. This means you don’t have to leave your beloved pets behind if you ever decide to go camping. Doesn’t that sound inviting? Escaping the daily grind with your best friend in tow.

Northern Bear Paw is a modest park but it doesn’t lack in resources available to you. No matter the type of lodging you choose to stay in, you’ll have an unforgettable experience reconnecting with nature. It has a strategic location, being nearby local attractions such as Lake Huron, Tawas Bay, River Road National. If you want to try something different, you can also pass through the casino or play a round of golf. If you are into big events, you may also enjoy festivals and fairs that are usually held minutes away from the park.

The RV sites can accommodate any RV size and have 20, 30, and 50-amp hookups. For a full-service hookup, they $35 a day and $33 for electricity and water hookup. You may also rent a primitive site with no hookups for only $25 a day. These rates are only for a family of 5. Extra persons are charged $5 per night.

Whalens Grindstone Shores, Inc.

This seasonal RV camping site is perfect for those who love to fish or want to learn the craft. It is near the Lake Huron and is located in the Grind Stone City. If you are wondering about places to stay, the campground provides various modes of accommodations; cabins with free WiFi is one worth mentioning. Whalens Grindstone Shores, Inc. opens from May to October. The well-maintained site and good ice cream shops earned a 5.0 star on Trip Advisor.

If you are staying here, you may visit the Grindstone General Store or Rybak Store for ice cream. You’ll also get to enjoy the White Church art galleries, Port Austin Reef Lighthouse, and the Famous Turnip Rock.

There are different cabin rental options that you can choose from. They range from $90-$165 based on two-person occupancy and all have cable TV, air-conditioning unit, and fully equipped kitchen. They also have rooms with shared bathrooms ranging from $60-$85. If you have a boat with at most 26ft, you may also rent a dock for $15 daily, $90 weekly, and $300 monthly. You can choose from 25 dock areas.

There are only 35 seasonal RV sites, which costs $1200 per year and open from May to October. They do not allow tents for this park. It’s a popular campground so make sure you call way ahead to schedule. Otherwise, there are usually long waiting lists.

Duggan’s Family Campground

Duggan’s Family Campground is a home for local attractions and great outdoor activities. This modern campground is located between Port Austin and the shores of Lake Huron. If you are planning on going to Port Crescent State Park, it is the campground for you. Visitors have rated this site as average because of its seasonal campsites and the need to reserve months before– not for the spontaneous campers. If you wish to camp here, you have to reserve your slot now and plan for a long stay. Unfortunately, they do not accept online reservations so you have to contact them through phone.

The serene and well-maintained park areas are the reason behind individuals’ and groups’ return visits. This site allows campers to enjoy the beach. However, if you’re not a fan of open water, you may also enjoy their pool. You could also avoid the water altogether and instead play video games in the arcade. Go with your family or friends and you’ll find the karaoke a wonderful bonding experience. Aside from these activities, you could also drop by nearby attractions such as amusement and mini golf parks.
